WAFSC is building pathways for Altadena residents to gain paid experience, industry recognized training, and access to meaningful careers connected to wildfire resilience, forestry, environmental work, emergency management, and public safety.
Training and Employment Pathways
Opportunities may include Team Member, Team Lead, Outreach Liaison, Executive or Operational Associate, and Field Surveyor roles. Hiring may support multiple people at each level as funding and projects become available.
What Participants Can Expect
Participants may work 30 to 40 hours per week in classroom, community, office, and outdoor field settings. Some evening and weekend availability may be required. Field assignments may involve varying weather, uneven terrain, physical activity, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Required Training
All trainees and employees will be expected to participate in approved local forestry, environmental, firefighting, cultural, emergency management, GIS, drone, chainsaw, defensible space, or related training. Training may be provided through WAFSC, Integrity Commitment, community colleges, workforce agencies, and other approved partners.
Career Sectors
Pathways may connect to forestry and fuels work, wildfire preparedness, defensible space, environmental restoration, GIS and mapping, drone operations, field surveying, emergency management, public safety, community engagement, and program operations.
Who Should Apply
We welcome Altadena and Los Angeles County residents, dislocated workers, people rebuilding after wildfire, justice impacted individuals, young adults, career changers, and community members ready to learn and work. Specific eligibility requirements will be listed with each opportunity.
